The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement in response to the Progressive Liberal Party’s (PLP) Pandemic Response Recommendations:
“Within days of the global pandemic reaching the shores of The Bahamas, the Government, the private sector, health professionals and religious leaders all came together to with the goal of saving lives. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the woeful PLP, under the old and tired Brave Davis, his chief mentee, the loquacious Chester Cooper, and his chief henchman, Fred Mitchell, to steer their own partisan political path. As is accustom to the PLP’s League of Corruption, they quickly began a full court press attacking any and all efforts to protect the health and safety of Bahamians.
“And they did it again this week with the woeful PLP changing their tune once again and now clamouring for ‘more proactive’ measures and to ‘follow the advice of health professionals,’ regarding COVID-19 response measures. It’s not lost on anyone except this PLP crew that their fearful leader, Davis just recently was attacking the Government, literally saying, ‘emergency regulations are a clear overreach with no benefit’.
“Which is it Brave? Do you want to save lives or keep trying in your bizarre effort to score political points during a global pandemic? What is clear is that the emergency measures instituted by the Minnis Administration have saved lives. And it’s because of the Prime Minister’s aggressive efforts to work with health care experts to develop health and safety protocols. And as a doctor, our Prime Minister would be the first to tell you there is no playbook to deal with an unprecedented global pandemic of this magnitude, so he’s been taking a data-driven approach to save lives.
“Sadly, the woeful PLP’s official position throughout has been political expediency. In stark contrast, this FNM Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, will continue making the tough but necessary decisions to save lives while we work to re-open our economy in a safe and responsible manner. That’s leadership, Brave should take note.”
The Free National Movement (FNM) candidate and business leader, Kenneth Smith, contacted the Chairman of the party to ask that his name be removed from nomination for the Mangrove Cay, Central and South Andros Constituency, due to health reasons. The FNM regrettably accepted his resignation and respects his right to privacy.
FNM Chairman, Carl Culmer, stated, “We thank Kenneth for his willingness to sacrifice and serve the people of Andros. He will be missed on the frontline, and we wish him a speedy return to good health and God’s blessings.”
The Party assures the people of Mangrove Cay, Central and South Andros that during the rigorous vetting process many outstanding candidates put themselves forward. The residents of Mangrove Cay, Central and South Andros may rest assured they will have an FNM candidate who shares their love of country and community.
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the coming election
“The Office of the Prime Minister dissolved Parliament today and issued writs of election, establishing September 16th as election day. We are blessed with the freedom to conduct fair, democratic elections, and the FNM encourages all Bahamians, regardless of affiliation, to let their voice be heard by voting.
“Bahamians are faced with a choice – continue the transformational progress that our government has made in job growth, infrastructure development, education, fiscal responsibility and transparency, or allow an overly-partisan, corrupt and neglectful PLP to return to power with hopes of dragging The Bahamas back to the past.
“For five long years the woeful PLP turned corruption into an art form as they, ‘drifted from scandal to scandal’ and brought our economy to the edge of collapse while Brave Davis served as Perry Christie’s top lieutenant. They damaged our international reputation, their corruption held Bahamians back, their neglect and incompetence caused undue harm to so many families and their lack of transparency showed how little they cared. Despite two crises of historic magnitude, this FNM Government – under the leadership of Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis – has worked to move The Bahamas forward while focusing on saving lives and livelihoods.
“The FNM is proud of its diverse and experienced slate of candidates that are sharing their vision for the future of The Bahamas, and the FNM is confident we will have the opportunity to continue improving opportunities and lives for every Bahamian. Even with the hardships we have witnessed, it remains the people’s time, and your vote for the FNM will allow progressive reforms to continue — improving the future for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren.”
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the arrival of 128,700 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in The Bahamas:
“From the outset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Minnis and his Administration have long stated that the way out of this pandemic, which has taken lives and wrecked economies globally, is through a mass vaccination campaign.
“Since the arrival of the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines earlier this year, the FNM Government has been working tirelessly to obtain additional vaccines, as well as the necessary equipment to properly store them. Not an easy task when so many around the world are seeking the same thing. But the Prime Minister and his Administration were resolute in working to make it happen and today’s arrival of 128,700 doses of the Pfizer vaccine is the first shipment of what will be nearly 400,000 doses that we will receive from the United States Government because of that work.
“The arrival of these Pfizer vaccines means The Bahamas now has enough doses to meet the demand existing throughout country and will allow us to continue upon our National Vaccination Campaign. The Prime Minister has reiterated his call for all Bahamians to come forward and do their part by receiving the vaccine so that we can continue our successful economic reopening in a safe and secure manner as we work towards a return to normalcy.
“But as Bahamians come forward to receive their vaccines, Dr. Minnis has also made clear – we cannot let our guard down. We must continue to follow the protocols: washing hands and wearing our masks when around others. Meanwhile the Prime Minister and this FNM Government will continue working tirelessly to bring in more vaccines and to save lives and livelihoods, because Bahamians deserve nothing less from their elected officials.”
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement in response to Fred Mitchell’s comments on the Government’s decision to use an image of Arthur Hanna on the 100 dollar note:
“The PLP’s desperate attempt to take credit for changing the image on the $100 note to Arthur Hanna is as bizarre as it is illuminating of Fred Mitchell’s state of mind and that of the PLP leadership he apparently ‘spoke’ to. Typical of the woeful PLP to take credit for things they didn’t accomplish, but recoil behind a phalanx of party lawyers when called to account for their disastrous past.
“The fact is the leadership of the PLP had ample time to honor their leaders or follow through on any of their campaign promises when they last held office. But as even the media has made clear they ‘frittered away much of its last term’, with ‘essentially no real economic growth’ and, “it is an irrefutable fact that the PLP… drifted from scandal to scandal’. Fred would have been better served to discuss those facts when he ‘spoke’ to the two chief architects of the PLP’s disastrous debacle.
“But Fred’s latest ‘breaking news’ dispatch fits a pattern of today’s woeful PLP leadership – bereft of leadership, with no new ideas or solutions – continually launching into a series of often contradictory, politically-motivated attacks even during a global pandemic. Fred would be well advised to set aside the pettiness and maybe read his own party’s after-action report from the last election – when they were swept out of power in historic fashion – to learn a little about why people don’t trust them to lead the country. Maybe he’d realize his petty-little, credit-seeking release during a global pandemic is one of the many.
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Opposition Leader’s latest politically-motivated attack during the pandemic:
“From the outset of the global pandemic, which has taken countless lives and wrecked economies globally, our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, has worked to make the tough but necessary decisions to save lives and livelihoods. As a doctor, the Prime Minister understands the vital need to take precautions to keep Bahamians safe, while we seek to maintain upon our economic reopening.
“Sadly, from the outset, the Opposition Leader has used the pandemic as nothing more than an opportunity to launch a series of ever contradictory, politically-motivated attacks that ignore the global realities of the deadly virus. His latest statement to the media is a continuation of this recurring theme for Brave Davis and his woeful PLP.
“Since the start of the pandemic Brave has offered Bahamians nothing more than contradictory, incoherent statements bereft of any real ideas and consistent only in their opposition to all actions taken by the Government. Why not join the Prime Minister in encouraging people to get vaccinated – which is the way our country will eventually defeat the virus – instead of launching his typical, round-the-clock political attacks?
“Despite Brave’s best efforts to distract the people in a last, desperate attempt for power, the Prime Minister and his Administration will continue to work tirelessly to source additional vaccines as we continue to reopen our economy in a safe and sustainable manner. That is the work of serious leaders, and the Prime Minister and this Government know Bahamians deserve nothing less from their elected officials.”
