Statement by The Hon. Michael C. Pintard, Leader of the Free National Movement on the Occasion of National Heroes Day

Today, I join the Bahamian people in a spirit of gratitude and national pride to honour those who have given the very best of themselves to our beloved country. The men and women recognized this year embody the highest ideals of The Bahamas: courage, selflessness, excellence, and love of country.

Greatness in The Bahamas is not confined to one field or generation. It can be found in our classrooms and clinics; our churches, NGOs, and communities; in the arts and sports, and in the public service and private sector. It lives in those who have tilled the soil, lifted their neighbours, and dared to dream beyond the limits of their time.

Each of our national honourees has expanded the meaning of what it is to be Bahamian. They remind us that leadership is service, that progress is collective, and that even a small nation can achieve extraordinary things when its people stand on principle and act with purpose.

As we celebrate their achievements, we must also renew our commitment to the values they represent – integrity, compassion, discipline, and devotion to the common good. These are the values that must guide our public institutions, inspire our young people, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as one people.

On behalf of the Free National Movement and all Bahamians who cherish our democracy, our culture, and our shared future, I extend heartfelt congratulations to this year’s honourees. May their legacy continue to light the path for generations to come.
