PLP IN FULL-BLOWN DISTRACT MODE

August 15, 2024

Fred Mitchell is desperately trying to outshine Deputy Prime Minister Cooper as the
PLP’s voice in Grand Bahama, but few take him seriously—especially as he tries to
convince Grand Bahamians that the FNM and I aren’t fighting for them.
Three of the FNM’s MPs don’t just fly to Grand Bahama, we live here.
No amount of political spin from Mitchell, who seems to think he’s Prime Minister, can
change this fact: Grand Bahama does not need a rate increase by the Grand Bahama
Power Company Limited. The same PLP government that hiked BPL’s fuel charges four
times in 12 months now hypocritically claims to oppose this increase. They are only
shedding crocodile tears in an attempt to win back Grand Bahamians they’ve long
neglected—just like the people of Eleuthera, Mangrove Cay and many other parts of The
Bahamas.
We stand firmly against this rate hike and will continue to fight it on behalf of Grand
Bahamians who are suffering under an out-of-touch government that is addicted to
making a bad situation even worse. The courts will decide who the regulator is, but our
focus remains on relieving the financial and social burdens on Grand Bahama. When
GBPC presents its case, they can count on our firm opposition.
