I’ve had a chance to sit with Senator Maxine Seymour, who offered her resignation after four years of diligent service in the Bahamas Senate as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of public service.
Senator Seymour used her position to uplift the most vulnerable among us, advocating for girls and women’s rights, child protection, mental health, and social justice. She was equally dedicated to assisting people with disabilities. She elevated the national conversation on these sensitive matters, and her fearless advocacy in the Upper House will continue to inspire our party’s transformation agenda.
Her intellect and compassion benefitted every portfolio she held—whether in the Shadow Ministry of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting or representing The Bahamas within the Inter-Parliamentary Union. In each role, her focus remained squarely on improving the well-being of her fellow citizens.
I want to personally thank Senator Seymour and her family, and look forward to her playing an equally productive role, not only in our lead up to the next election, but most especially within the next Free National Movement-led government under my leadership.
