The Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition today announced an updated Shadow Cabinet, comprising a Primary Shadow Minister for each of the Government’s 21 Ministries, supported by a spokesperson in the Senate and/or House of Assembly.
Hon. Michael C. Pintard, M.P. said the appointments represent another important step in strengthening the Free National Movement’s readiness to govern while expanding the party’s frontline team that will hold the Davis administration accountable.
“This Shadow Cabinet reflects our commitment to providing relentless, informed and consistent oversight of every ministry of government,” Pintard said.
“We have deliberately expanded our frontline so that Bahamians benefit from a broader team of experienced parliamentarians and professionals who will scrutinize government decisions and develop practical alternatives.”
Beyond the parliamentary team, each portfolio will be supported by dozens of former FNM candidates, industry experts and experienced party members who will keep a close watch on the work of their respective ministries. Their research, policy advice and stakeholder engagement will strengthen our Shadow Ministers and spokespersons as they hold the Government to account and continue preparing the Free National Movement to govern.
The Leader noted that FNM Deputy Leader Shanendon Cartwright has been appointed Shadow Minister for Education, Technical and Vocational Training, which corresponds to the portfolio held by the Deputy Prime Minister.
FNM Chairman Dr. Duane Sands will serve as Shadow Minister for Health, bringing his considerable experience and expertise to one of the nation’s most critical ministries.
Additionally, FNM Secretary General Serfent Rolle has been assigned the portfolio of Shadow Minister of Culture, Art & Heritage.
“We believe the challenges facing The Bahamas require a wider range of expertise and greater collaboration,” Pintard said.
“The Davis administration will now face an Opposition with more voices, more expertise and greater capacity to expose failures, challenge poor decisions and advance better solutions for the Bahamian people.”
