Around the world, a new economic order is taking shape – one driven not by oil or gold, but by data.
Every click, every image, every movement – our very identities – now exist as digital assets.
And the nations that protect that data, that govern it wisely, will lead the next global economy.
The Bahamas must be among them.
That’s why under my leadership, a Free National Movement administration will move decisively to modernize our data privacy, protection, and sovereignty laws, making The Bahamas a global leader in digital trust and innovation.
Today, our laws protect personal information inside our borders, but they do not yet secure our digital sovereignty.
We must ensure that the data of Bahamian citizens, and of anyone who chooses to trust us, is protected by Bahamian law even when stored beyond our shores.
We will make data protection not only a legal standard, but a pillar of national policy. That means:
- Enshrining data privacy as a constitutional right;
- Treating data as a strategic national asset;
- Requiring local storage of biometric and critical datasets; and
- Giving every Bahamian and resident control over their digital identity.
But we must also think bigger.
Under our vision, The Bahamas will become a premier jurisdiction for data protection, not just for Bahamians, but for people around the world who value privacy and ethical technology.
We will create a framework for data citizenship, allowing global citizens and institutions to host their digital lives here, under the protection of our laws and oversight.
This is how we make The Bahamas the Switzerland of data privacy: a trusted, secure, and respected hub in the global digital economy. We will back this with strong institutions and skills, training Bahamians in cybersecurity, AI governance, and digital regulation, and building sovereign data infrastructure right here at home.
Because the next great measure of sovereignty is data sovereignty.
If we do not govern our data, others will.
If we do not value our digital identity, others will exploit it.
Under a future FNM government, we will protect the dignity, privacy, and prosperity of our people – by ensuring that The Bahamas becomes a leader in the global data economy, anchored in freedom, security, and trust.
