Speaking before a packed candidate launch rally in Freeport on Friday, Free National Movement Leader Hon. Michael C. Pintard criticized the Davis Administration’s failure to deliver meaningful progress in Grand Bahama. He cited the unresolved future of the Grand Lucayan, the incomplete international airport, ongoing struggles at Rand Memorial Hospital, and rising electricity costs while outlining a plan to restore jobs, rebuild infrastructure, and return the island to the center of national economic growth.
For four years this government has made promise after promise. Yet the Grand Lucayan remains unresolved, the international airport unfinished, Rand Memorial Hospital still struggling, and fam- ilies are paying more simply to keep the lights on.
Grand Bahama has endured hurricanes, economic shocks, and global challenges. What it should not have to endure is government drift. The island cannot move forward when leadership substi- tutes announcements for outcomes.
Pintard said the FNM’s plan for Grand Bahama is focused on delivering measurable results.
The plan begins with unlocking projects that have stalled under the current administration. An FNM government will secure the right buyer and development partner for the Grand Lucayan through full transparency and clear timelines and ensure completion of a modern international airport worthy of the island’s potential.
The FNM will also move urgently to improve conditions at Rand Memorial Hospital by upgrading critical equipment, completing long delayed facilities, and addressing staffing shortages so healthcare workers can operate safely and effectively. To ease pressure on working families the party will eliminate VAT on baby products, feminine hygiene products, and essential healthcare services.
Over a five year term the FNM will build thousands of housing units nationwide with a commit- ment that Grand Bahama receives its fair share.
Economic expansion must reach every part of the island. The FNM will invest in eco tourism, support boutique hotel development in East and West Grand Bahama, strengthen Bahamian man- ufacturing, and expand local food production and processing.
The party also pledged long overdue infrastructure improvements including upgrades to Queen’s Highway and neglected communities lacking paved roads, proper street lighting, and reliable wa- ter.
An FNM administration will further establish Grand Bahama as a one stop business hub by decen- tralizing approvals currently dependent on Nassau and will revive the marina and yachting sector. Grand Bahama does not need another round of promises.
