The Free National Movement extends our deepest condolences to the families and communities
impacted by last night’s tragic accident in North Abaco. Our heart is with those grieving this
sudden and devastating loss.
The worrisome state of North Abaco’s infrastructure has resulted in too many tragedies. The lack
of proper road markers, reflectors, street lighting, and meaningful road repairs makes negotiating
the highway difficult even for experienced drivers. Instead of lasting solutions, the PLP has
offered quick patches and temporary fixes that do little to keep residents safe.
The danger doesn’t end when the crash happens. The island’s deteriorating healthcare facilities
and the shortage of adequate emergency equipment mean that in times of crisis, help is too often
delayed, and lives are placed in even greater jeopardy.
The people of North Abaco deserve the same safety standards and quality infrastructure as every
other Bahamian, but the PLP has failed to deliver it for nearly four years.
The FNM calls for urgent, immediate action to install proper road markings, reflectors, and street
lighting along North Abaco’s main highways, to repair and maintain road surfaces so they are
safe year-round, and to upgrade healthcare facilities and equip emergency services so they can
respond quickly and effectively.
These are not optional improvements; they are lifesaving measures. Until they are addressed, we
urge residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution on our roads.
North Abaco has been neglected for far too long. That must change, and it will with an FNM
government that works for you.
