STATEMENT FROM FNM LEADER MICHAEL PINTARD ON THE SITUATION IN THE REPUBLIC OF HAITI

Mar 13, 2024

March 3,

The Free National Movement is gravely concerned regarding reports of the
deteriorating situation in the Republic of Haiti.
In recent days, the international airport in Port Au Prince was attacked, and
there has been an increase in threats against Haitian Government officials
and law enforcement officials. Several have reportedly been killed and
injured.
This deteriorating situation has massive implications for the Bahamas'
national security, particularly illegal migration to the country and the
trafficking of contraband across national borders.
While we join with our partners in CARICOM in calling for a sustainable,
collaborative solution for our fellow Caribbean nation, our primary concern
remains the safety of Bahamian lives who are most at risk due to persistent
unrest in Haiti. We call upon the government to advise of the steps taken to
ensure the safety of the Bahamian embassy and its staff in Haiti and to
address the security of our borders with a sense of urgency.

Hon. Michael C. Pintard, M.P.
Leader
