January 5, 2024

On January 5, 2024, the Office of the Prime Minister released a blatantly false

Minister Mitchell said: "We oppose this Freedom of Information Act." He added
that the law and other recently enacted modern legislation do not help Bahamians.
We remind everyone that Mr.  Mitchell speaks for the PLP as party chairman. As a
cabinet minister, he speaks for the entire Davis administration.

We all heard what Minister Mitchell said from his very own lips. His comments
could in no way be interpreted as an affirmation of the Davis Administration's
commitment to FOIA, as the Prime Minister's office unapologetically attempted to
spin. Their statement is an insult to the intelligence of the Bahamian people.

In truth, the PLP has been speaking loudly through its actions and inaction over the
last two years, demonstrating that they do not believe in FOIA. As stated in my
press release yesterday, Minister Mitchell has only confirmed that the Davis
administration never intended to implement freedom of information in any
meaningful way.
