Recent News Shows Tourism on the Rise

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the recent run of positive tourism news:

“The Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, and his administration took decisive action when the pandemic first hit, working to save lives and livelihoods in the face of an unprecedented crisis. Now, as The Bahamas continues to sustain a safe and responsible economic reopening, and as vaccine efforts continue globally, there are many encouraging signs that tourism is on the rise and that The Bahamas will continue to rebound in a strong, sustainable manner.

“Nearly 430,000 guests have arrived in The Bahamas so far in 2021 as visitor arrivals continue to accelerate month to month. With the recent record-setting day of arrivals at Lynden Pindling International Airport, the arrival of two new home port cruises, and bustling resorts that are bringing back employees – the signs are everywhere. In fact, Atlantis just reported a major uptick in books with over 90% occupancy and Baha Mar over 75%. It is clear the Administration is getting results and have us moving in the right direction.

“While we all understand the pandemic prevention measures have been difficult for all Bahamians, we are beginning to see the positive results of the true leadership the Minnis Administration took to make the tough decisions necessary to save lives during the pandemic. And they continue to encourage everyone to get the vaccine so we can sustain this growing momentum as we stay safe. And when the pandemic ends, they will continue working to ensure opportunities exist for all Bahamians, not just a select few, because they know the people deserve nothing less from their elected leaders.”
