Businesses Finding Hope in Sustained Reopening

Apr 14, 2021

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Minnis Administration’s leadership in sustaining a safe and responsible economic reopening:

“Encouraging signs continue for small businesses as the Minnis Administration is managing a safe, responsible and sustained reopening. According to the Bahamas Excursion Operators Association, businesses have seen a ‘huge improvement’ compared to this time last year and remain optimistic about the months ahead. The reopening of Rosewood and SLS at Baha Mar, among other destinations, has certainly moved the needle, as 60,000 health visas were purchased in March – the highest number since the start of the pandemic.

“While economies in many parts of the world remain at a standstill, The Bahamas ability to manage a phased reopening is the result of strong leadership and teamwork. Bahamians have made sacrifices and endured hardships, but everyone has done their part in helping get our economy up and running again. The Prime Minister worked with leading healthcare experts, community leaders and civil workers, while the majority of Bahamians did their part by following protocols and lifting up their neighbor during challenging times.

“Prime Minister Minnis understands the pandemic response measures, social distancing laws, curfews and other protocols have presented challenges to everyone; but we have gotten results because of people following them. And that has allowed us to coordinate a safe, responsible and sustained reopening, even receiving praise from the international healthcare community.

“We must remain vigilant and continue heading pandemic response protocols so that businesses continue to open, and our nation can move forward to a full recovery. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Minnis, our FNM government will continue working to ensure all Bahamians have the opportunity to be vaccinated while continuing relief efforts to care for those impacted by the pandemic, as we deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
