Minnis Administration Leadership Making Progress Towards Economic Reopening

Mar 23, 2021

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Minnis Administration’s leadership in working towards economic recovery:

“Since the onset of the global pandemic, Prime Minister Minnis has prioritized the health and safety of all Bahamians, and The Bahamas has been successful in maintaining low infection rates, even receiving the praise of international health organizations for our results. But just as the Prime Minister is working to save lives, he understands the importance of saving livelihoods, which is why his Administration is focused on a safe and responsible reopening of the economy.

“Last week, Rosewood and SLS announced their reopening at Baha Mar, putting 600 Bahamians back to work and today, Crystal Cruises—planning to relaunch in July—reported their biggest single-day of bookings in their 30-year history. Royal Caribbean also plans to relaunch cruises soon and is working in conjunction with the Government to plan their summer schedule. These are encouraging signs that progress is being made.

“The Prime Minister will be the first to tell us the pandemic measures have not been easy on anyone. But he also understood these measures, social distancing guidelines and other protocols were the keys to moving us to a safe, responsible and sustainable reopening. And we continue to see the results of those efforts. One need only look at other countries – like throughout Europe – to see many nations are still struggling to turn the corner on COVID, but The Bahamas is succeeding where others have failed because we have leaders working together with health care experts and communities to make progress and get results.

“The Minnis Administration knows this is only the beginning. And with the vaccine’s arrival and other positive signs, the work continues to prepare for a full reopening. Likewise, Prime Minister Minnis will continue looking out for those that have suffered from the economic impact of the pandemic, because he knows we deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
