Hotel Openings Demonstrates Effective Pandemic Management

Mar 7, 2021

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding recent reopening of SLS and Rosewood hotels at Baha Mar:

“Last week SLS and Rosewood Hotels at Baha Mar announced they would resume business, returning 600 employees back to work. The global pandemic, which halted the tourism industry across the world, forced the hotels to close for nearly a year. And while the tourism industry in many parts of the world still have their doors closed, The Bahamas has been gradually returning to business in a safe and responsible manner.

“Realizing the importance of managing COVID-19 in a way that would produce results, the Minnis Administration demanded government follow the direction of healthcare experts, not politicians. This data driven approach allowed The Bahamas to maintain low case numbers compared to other countries in the region and around the word, especially among those that took a more politized approach.

“Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, will be the first to acknowledge how difficult the lockdown measures and other protocols have been on all Bahamians. However, with businesses such as SLS and Rosewood reopening, while businesses in other parts of the world remain closed, we’re seeing the effectiveness of our Government’s pandemic response measures.

“Not playing politics with the pandemic and showing true leadership has us positioned for the economy to start to open. That meant focusing on saving lives by working with the medical experts, regardless of the stream of nonsensical, often contradictory politically motivated attacks coming from Brave Davis and his PLP. While seeing employees of SLS and Rosewood return to work brings optimism, the Minnis Administration will continue to stay ever vigilant with the goal of preventing any spread as our businesses methodically open their doors and get back to business once again.”
