PLP Makes Tone-Deaf Attack on the Press

Feb 4, 2021

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding Fred Mitchell’s unhinged swipe at the media for his party’s abysmal candidate selection:

“Like a child, only the woeful PLP can get mad when confronted with the unfortunate truth. As the media accurately pointed out, what’s old is new again when it comes to candidate recruitment as well as policy positions and failed leadership. In Trump-like fashion, Fred Mitchell launched into a diatribe towards the The Tribune yesterday, for simply stating the obvious and what most Bahamians already know – his party’s candidate selection harkens back to the past and proves once again the PLP hasn’t moved on from the disastrous past that led to a historic election defeat.

“Earth to Fred… no one was contrasting the number of fresh faces among the parties; it was pointing out reality – the woeful PLP lead by Brave Davis seems intent on getting the old gang back together by bringing back several controversial figures that were voted out, predominately by wide margins, in 2017. The PLP’s hair trigger response shows how thin skinned they.

“It’s also interesting in his bizarre comparison between parties, because Fred seems to forget the FNM had many successful candidates in 2017 that now hold office and will run again. By contrast Fred should know many of the PLP candidates lost last time around so they have a lot of work to do. Yet true to their nature, Brave Davis has sought to re-unite his League of Corruption, nominated a handful of candidates that were instrumental in creating the machine of corruption, even protecting their cronies from facing consequences for their actions.

“In the meantime, the FNM is nominating both incumbents and new candidates that bring considerable leadership and experience to the table who will work to create more opportunities for all Bahamians, not a select few, because we know, the people deserve nothing less from our elected leaders.”
