Minnis Administration Taking Steps to Lift Up Struggling Communities

Jan 4, 2021

The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the Government’s business grant program yielding positive results:

“The last year was beyond challenging for Bahamians – including entrepreneurs and business owners. It is true that our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, has prioritized healthy and safety to save lives, but he and his administration have also worked with a sense of urgency to bring relief for local businesses who are struggling through the economic hardships the pandemic has wrought.

“Since the start of the pandemic, The Minnis Administration has dedicated $47.3 million in grants and loans to small businesses. According to the Guardian, over 400 businesses have applied for assistance in the second round of grant disbursements alone.

“One of the top executives at the Bahamas Entrepreneurial Venture Fund’s called the efforts, ‘good for the economy,’ saying, ‘it’s good for local communities, because we know that the engine of any small economy is small and medium-sized enterprises.’ Our Prime Minster, Dr. Hubert Minnis, grew up in Over the Hill, he saw firsthand the struggles working families go through as well as the resiliency and ingenuity of Bahamians. Prime Minister Minnis understands much work remains in recovering from the economic despair the pandemic has brought, and he remains committed to working to provide the necessary plans for the recovery to reach all segments of the country.

“This administration believes hope can exist even in the most challenging times. And under the leadership of Prime Minister Minnis, our Government will continue fighting for all Bahamians and their businesses as we continue to re-open the economy in a safe and responsible manner.”
